85% of People HATE Their Jobs

According to a Gallup Poll released in August 2017, eighty-five percent of people worldwide admit to hating their jobs in an anonymous survey. And if you are reading this right now you may be in that category.

HATE YOUR JOB

Here are the 5 major reasons why people are becoming unhappy with their current vocation

Paycheck

Many of us are working one or 2 jobs and working 50+ hours a week just to make ends meet. Then we seem to always come up with too much month at the end of the money. That paycheck is the result of your work, not the reason for your work. Maybe it is what your parents wanted you to do. Maybe it was the career that you learned that keeps you in debt with student loans. Maybe it was the promises that you feel were made to you as you were training for your career. If you think that it is the paycheck then that is why you hate your job. Once you reach your goal, you will always want more.

Leadership

Managers come and managers go and the company remains the same. Managers are the leaders of the workplace and an ineffective manager cannot lead. Leaders should be bringing the best out in their followers by inspiring them to do more. When a worker deserves praise the Manager should be the first one to give the praise. When this doesn’t happen it has been shown that the workers’ production levels suffer. Many people in the workplace hate their managers because of this one simple thing. Workers are not appreciated.

 a bad leader

Another thing that adds to this is that so many people today are in the service industry because so many of the manufacturing jobs have moved offshore because wages are so much lower and they can get long hours out of the workforce. The managers that we have, have been trained in company oriented skills and not in people skills. We have a bunch of leaders who aren’t trained on how to lead.

Workplace

Many times you like what you do. You like your boss. But the environment that you work in is just not suitable for you. It just stinks. It could be the corporate structure or the actual location of where you work. It could be other relationships from work. Whatever it is you just don’t like being there. Every week is the same. Another Monday has come again. Another Monday

But we know that if we don’t go to work that we will not have a full paycheck next week. And we also know that if we play hooky that there is a chance that we might get caught and lose this boring job that we hate and put us in the unemployment line. So we get up begrudgingly and go to work.

Wages

Another thing that causes people to be discontent with their jobs is that the harder they work the less money they have. Median income continues to drop as our daily lives get more expensive. Kids, vacations, holidays, sports and many more activities add to this list. Husband and wife are both working and in some cases, both may have 2 jobs. But the after-tax money they are able to accumulate simply is not allowing them to make it. And the opportunity in the workplace is no longer there as it was 20 or 30 years ago.

Working for peanuts

Job Security

Let’s face it. There is no job security anywhere in the workplace today. The days of the 40-year plan no longer work. For those of you not familiar with the 40-year plan:

Go to school. Get a good education. Get a good paying job. Work for the same company for 40 years. Retire with a gold watch and a pension and enjoy your golden years.

The first Major company I worked for had a 25-year plan, and Retire with a good pension. I left the company 10 years later. This same thing has happened to hundreds of thousands of workers’ in America, losing jobs they have had for 20, 30, 40 years. When the company ends its pension program or moves offshore, the workers’ generally have not increased their skills in other areas as prevention if this were to happen in the future. We no longer have security in any job.

And today we have people all over America on Social Security that are barely able to make it month to month.

Add all of these things up and what do you get, JOB HATRED, across the board.

Job Security

  1. You hit the nail right on the head. And to be honest, it still surprises me how our educational system programs us to be a slave of our wages. They trained students to work for someone else’s business. They encourage future graduates to find a job as soon as they finish school.

I wish schools train students to be entrepreneurs. But then again who will work for the entrepreneurs? So, I guess, being an employee is just in the system. It’s part of this world. The choice is just up to you – whether you want to live a stressfull life as an employee or you want to start your own business and be your own boss.

    • Marissa, Thank you and you are so correct about the education system being to blame.

The period of time that America was built, was before the industrial revolution and it was Built on Free Enterprise. But sadly, because of the hold that Capitalism has on the world today, that is what they teach. Go into debt(Borrowed Capital) to start a business or become an employee.

  2. You know, it doesn’t surprise me at all that 85% of people hate their jobs, for all of the reasons you have outlined and many others.

I worked for many years in the mining industry and I would say that overall 80-90% of the time I hated it!

At the end of the day, you are treated as just another number, a slave to silly rules and you have to put up with a lot of people that you really don’t want to be spending time with.

For all of the people that love their job I applaud you, but for myself, hating my job lead me to start my online business and pursue something that has a lot more meaning for me.

It’s unfortunate that a lot of the 85% that continue to hate their jobs don’t pursue an online business as a way to escape that dreaded rat race!

    Eye-opening post, thanks 🙂

  3. It’s just so sad that many people live a life of frustration just to make ends meet, I remember back in the days when I had to go through the stress of  9-5 job just for the pay, not that the pay is even that much

But when you think of the next available option as at that time, which is possibly quitting the job, then you realise you are better off with the work.

I can’t stress how grateful I am that the internet now offers us a great opportunity to give up such work and make our own money online in a much relaxed and stress-free way.

And I am glad I stumbled upon this online platform Wealthy Affiliate that has helped me start up my own business and I look forward to achieving my financial dreams soonest.

    Cheers..

  4. Hello Sonny,

You have rightly said there, I too hated my job & left. The reason being too much expectations from the management in little time. I would rather say you have put a finger on my paining wound by writing that post.

Those days are gone when a person thought about 20,30,40 year plan with their companies. Now everywhere man-hours are being replaced with machine-hours. Education is by-default necessary but now is the time to think about what we are getting after putting so many expenses on our education?

Thank God, I read about WA immediately after kicking off my services & joined there. This was only because of a review I read somewhere just like you had written. That is why I must Thank You for your good work. Keep it up.

  5. Earlier during the college days, I had told myself frankly that the 9-5work isn’t my thing. But the pressure from family and friends prompted me to secure a full time employment. I didn’t spend 6months before I quit because the environment doesn’t just suit me. I hate the job so much because of my boss. He doesn’t know how to address anybody. He was too full of himself  and arrogant. The work, pay and stress wasn’t worth it.

I decided to establish myself in online marketing and I have been struggling but I still find more happiness than when working under a boss.

Yes, there is just something special about having your own business and not having a boss looking over your shoulder.

  7. For many century’s we have had to trade our time for money and now because of the internet anybody with a connection to the internet can create an online income.

It has changed our whole structure of our society and has given ordinary people opportunity’s that once was only available for the great and the good. The internet is a modern revolution where for the first time ordinary people can shape their own destiny.

  8. All I can say is “Preach!”

I currently work in a corporate job as an accountant and I can not tell you how many times I’ve caught myself complaining about the work environment and the horrible managers that have no clue how to lead or even connect with their employees on a personal level.

For me, it was the expectation of working long hours and giving up precious family time with my babies that I decided to start looking for online opportunities to create an income. That’s when I came across WA and all the training and knowledge I received has been second to none. Most times I wish I came across this kind of training before I even went to college! I’m still at my corporate job as I’m still a newbie to the online world, but I can honestly say I’m excited for the future this knowledge will allow for me.

Thank you for your article. It’s amazing to me how many people just give in to the 9 to 5 grind without ever giving any thought or effort into other income sources.

    • Kaye, thank you so much for you comment. Yes in my working years I was the same way, all the way back to my first job in 1970. That is when the paycheck became my driving force.

The training has been impeccable so far and I just continue to see it get better.

      Best wishes on your journey.

  9. You are absolutely right on this. I hate mine most times and I am sure everyone else does. It is not only the grind, the waking up early morning, but also workplace politics and some times a nagging boss.

There tons of reasons to hate one’s job and everything you mentioned here is very true. That is why I have ventured into online business for myself and I will surely be using some of the tips you dropped here.

    Great share.

    • Thank you so much Richard. I knew that the figure was high but was not certain how high. So I did a little research and found that Gallup poll that showed 85% and the rest is in the Post.
